Q: How long lap band surgery takes and for what duration patient has to stay in hospital?
A: surgery takes 30 to 60 minutes and after surgery patient have to stay for one day in hospital.
Q: What is the recovery period of lap band surgery?
A: Laparoscopic lap band surgery requires three to five days for recovery.
Q: How much weight a patient loses after lap band surgery?
A: Result of weight loss after surgery vary from patient to patient, and depends on several factors such as right position of band, patient new lifestyle and eating habits. Normally patient loses 2 to 3 pounds per week during first year after the lap band surgery. After one year weight loss rate is continuously reduced.
Q: Do I have to be careful with the access port just underneath my skin?
A: There are no restrictions based on the access port. It is placed under the skin in the abdominal wall, and once the incisions have healed it should not cause discomfort or limit your movements or any physical exercise. The only sensation you may have from the port is when you go in for adjustments. If you feel persistent discomfort in the port area, let us know as soon as possible.
Q: Can the lap band be removed?
A: Once the lap band is placed, will not be removed. If the band is removed, stomach will comes in its original shape and patient may gain weight.
Q: If patient has surplus skin after weight loss?
A: There is normally no surplus skin after weight loss, if there patient may go for plastic surgery after one year of lap band surgery. In most of such cases the skin will mold itself around the new body tissue. Patient may has to give sufficient time to skin before thinking about any surgery.
Q: If patient may feel lap band tighter in morning?
A: This is the very common feeling. Normally after the adjustment of lap band or having tighter band, patient may feel this type of feeling. Some women feel lap band tighter during menstruation.
